What to do when in Miami, Florida

A Year of Exploring| Miami, Fl
Things to do

It’s about that time again and I’m back in Miami, Florida. This time around I did a bit of exploring from a tourist point . I usually keep busy with my friends and family and relax at the beach, however this time around I decided to branch out a bit.  My time spent in Miami,Fl was focused on being active. So, if you can get yourself there, I’ll tell you how to enjoy yourself for A LOW PRICE and even FREE!

There is plenty to do while in Miami, let alone Florida as a whole. However, since I was in Miami I went to a few locations that I think will help guide you if you are looking to sight see that are FREE. Yes, you read that correctly….FREE! As a NYC city girl I like both the fast pace and suburbs. Thus going to Miami I was able to enjoy both while in downtown Miami. Its a community that highlights the arts with blocks designated for it called Wynwood Art District starting around Northwest 25th street and on.  It’s a visual mix of museums, painting, murals and graffiti art.  Literally every store or building has a different art piece. Some pieces have influences from artist you maybe familiar with. Driving to the district- within a few blocks I instantly began hopping in and out the car with my cousin to take photos. The beauty and energy of the artwork was electric, I leaped to the opportunity to be a part of them.

So, to fully enjoy this adventure; all you need is;

  1. Transportation: Get a designated driver who doesn’t mind stopping every time you see an art piece that draws your attention (I was definitely that person stopping ever other block). If you don’t have a car, don’t worry, there’s Citibike for bike riders, Uber taxis and buses that can take you there. If you get a chance check out Wynwood Walls, do so, its a laid back area to sit, eat, take pictures or just rest your feet. Did I mention that its surrounded with wall to wall art work (I hear a photo opportunity about to happen for you!)
  2. Be Prepared: wear comfortable footwear you will need it. Walking is great, bring snacks to hold you over until you find a restaurant. Remember there is no need to feel faint because you glucose level is going down. Keep that energy up!
  3. Camera/Phone
  4. Open mind, so you can find adventure everywhere.

Bayside, Downtown Miami

Attraction

There’s plenty to do at Bayside Marketplace, from the outside it looks like an arena but once inside you immediately transition to another scene.  When I initially took in the scenery; it felt like I was at a cruise port with the sun shining and the cool breeze from the water. The options of dining, watching a live band perform, a shopping center and water attractions will keep you busy. The marketplace center can be really busy and filled with people, but don’t let that detour you from going. There are areas that can make you feel the peaceful ambiance; like sitting on the seawall watching the boats go by while enjoying the sun kiss your skin (#IReallyEnjoyedMyTimeThere).  Walking around enjoying the scenery is free and calming. The sense of not feeling pressure to purchase anything but to sit, be still and enjoy the moment happens here. I believe in finding peace everyday and sometimes walking by the water does just that.

Dining
Latin America Restaurant| Bayside Miami

This was a highlight, especially since we ate at a wonderful restaurant that brought us our food immediately. Everything was well seasoned and portioned. Between the  beautiful waterfront seating, attentive service and did I mention GREAT FOOD, it was a wonderful dining experience.  I will definitely return to this place.

Yes, bring your camera! Listen I did not know what Wynwood was until I went and it was great. Don’t forget the sneakers!

I have been anxious to get to Miami to see all of the street art in the Wynwood District. Since I will have some time off this summer, I will definitely try to make the drive south for a few days. I love exploring a new city on a budget as there are often many free and low cost things to take advantage of as you have shown here.

Yes, I am for the exploring on a budget. The reason being is cause traveling already can be expensive so if I can help someone out there to enjoy this adventure on a budget I will. You go and have a wonderful time!!

Great tips for traveling to Miami. Most recently I went last year. I never thought about getting a personal driver though. We ended up taking an uber or walking everywhere.

Lol, my driver was definitely my cousin and she enjoyed as well since she is a new photographer.

I’ve never been to Miami but it’s a place I want to visit for sure. One day I’ll plan a trip there and check some of these spots out.

I want to go to Miami but I’ve yet to go. Hopefully soon I will and I’ll get to check out some of these spots.

    • Reply NaysVoice May 11, 2016 at 10:19 pm

Yea, check it out. Also check airlines. Miami can totally be a cheap round trip fare as well. My cost was well under $200 round trip.

Miami has a bunch of cool things. I need to explore it a bit more.

I love Miami. Funny enough, I enjoyed it more when I went solo vs going with friends. I felt they were on a champagne taste with beer money. It was frustrating. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll be checking them out next time I go. 🙂
