paddle boat ride

Budget Friendly Family Activity | Paddle Boat

Alright, your on a healthy lifestyle journey. Your incorporating clean eating, gym activity and calorie counting. This is going well for you but your at a point now that you need a break. You’ve been in tunnel vision mode and feeling a bit disconnected from your family and friends but don’t want to lose focus. You’ve decided to find a way to blend the two and you need a budget friendly family activity. I say take a quick break by having a fun activity planned for all to enjoy. I suggest a paddle boat ride, yes, even during the fall season. The weather is cool enough to bring some hot cocoa or tea to drink while snuggled together with your spouse (I see a date in the works…hint, hint). I personally enjoy park dates, especially in the fall.

Remember, you can get some cardio in by taking the driver/paddler seat and those with you can enjoy the scenery. Also, since paddle boats are usually in a park setting. You can turn it into a family fun day with the grill in attendance. Just remember to bring some warm blankets, tea and entertainment (dvd player, playing cards or even a book to read) to enjoy after your boat ride. I will also suggest starting early, since during the fall season we here in the east coast lose our sunlight earlier. Start early allows you to leave before it gets dark and really chilly.

If you live in the New York City area, I suggest going to Prospect Park located in Brooklyn, NY.

The price to rent a paddle boat range from $25 – $35, don’t worry if you want the kids to paddle alone while you work on your upper body. The option of renting a kayak boat is available here as well. With prices ranging from $15 – $25 based on single or double occupancy. Therefore with prices this low, a family fitness day can’t be passed up.

What are some of your favorite family activities?

Perfect timing to see this post!
I’m in Maryland and have been obsessing over Autumn Foliage viewing. This is a cool way to view the colors in the park.

Wow this is an awesome idea! I’m in NYC and have never tried a paddle boat, but they do have a similar setup in Central Park for the Manhattan folks. I believe someone also told me that Brooklyn Bridge Park offers free or cheap kayaking as well.

omg yes. We should link up if you want to go kayaking. Your friend is absolutely correct. I did Kayaking for free and it was great. Manhattan allows offers it as well, however I don’t remember if its free or not. If you go let me know how you like it.

Paddle boating is a lot of fun but I hadn’t thought of it as a fall activity. During the fall we enjoy going to Fall Festivals and picking pumpkins.

To be honest with you Mimi, I didn’t think of it as a fall activity either but when I realize it could work. I just wanted to share the idea.

I would love to do paddle boats one day. My boys are too young now. We love to travel as a family. 🙂
