Don’t Believe the Hype
Don’t Believe the Hype
Dear Millennials,
It’s all HYPE!
Yes I said it, the hype that everyone on Instagram are beauty gurus and owns every single lipstick known to man. The Facebook’er who traveled to 22 different places this year. The snap chatters who gives you 15 seconds of fun only to be bored for the remaining 59 minutes and 45 seconds at the particular event. Now, don’t get me wrong there are individuals whose life is this adventurous. However, what your not seeing is the countless hours these individuals worked on their craft. The women who spent hours perfecting the wing liner technique (which I’m still personally working on) or even the person who seems to be in a different place every time you look online. Take note- you didn’t see when they worked two to three jobs or them searching eight different sites to find flight deals. And for the snappers…. What else can I say but the fact that this app was I feel developed to share the highs of our life… So if it is 15 secs of fun out of 3 hours of boredom … Guess what that’s what your going to see.
However, don’t get lost in my explanation because the flip side, is the side no one wants to talk about. The side of people looking and soaking in what they see. Thinking…. I wish it could be me. Yeah, at first you brush it off, not paying it any mind. You tell yourself that looks cool, you’re happy for them and one day it will be you. Then as time passes and more swipes, taps and snaps later you find yourself no longer being content with what you have. Nope! you now have a longing to be that dope poet you heard that’s “living the life”, you want all 100 shades of urban decay lipsticks and did I mention that you now want to travel the world. There is nothing wrong with being inspired or even educated by watching others, it’s actually how learning and growing in life happens.
Tweet this: Let the burden go of trying to be all you’re not fall away and be all you are destined to be. by NaysVoice
However, the detriment occurs when you NO LONGER APPRECIATE YOUR LIFE’S JOURNEY and begin to compare. But I tell you right now that if you keep doing that you’ll rob yourself of who you are. You’ll rob this world by counterfeiting yourself as someone else. Therefore you can go right ahead and call yourself a thief. I’m telling you this because “EVERYONE THAT YOU SEE AND/OR TALK TO IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THIS THING CALLED LIFE“. Some may find answers with a relationship with God and some with work, but really and truly it’s a journey. Be all you’re destine to be and let that burden go of trying to be all you’re not fall away. Help those around you by being an encouragement for others and yourself.
Don’t forget to pop your own bottle, pour yourself a glass and celebrate how far you’ve come.

I absolutely love this advice because in it I can hear a voice of experience and self enlightenment, something many people can then be encouraged from. Thanks for sharing this piece
You’re right, it’s all highlights! I’m so glad that I’m not the kind of person who pays that much attention to those things to the point that it affects how I think/feel about myself and what I do/buy.
that is a great attitude to have. Please share and spread it to other young women who may fall into this pit. share you confidence in the world. Thank you!
It’s so crazy! Even if you are cognizant of this you still definitely have to remember this
All that glitters is not gold and in the age of social media, it is easy for people to think that everything is so great for some people without knowing the background.
Trying to figure out this thing called “Life” is beyond overwhelming some time.
Love the post…
Great post. I like to post the fun times, but I usually don’t post the hard work that goes into it.
You’re so right. I tell people all the time that they only see what people want them to see.
correct and we as a people should compare ourselves even more. Especially in a world that says we should compare ourselves.
So good!
I love this, right now there is a guy on my timeline who is in a different country every other day (he’s a flight attendant) and I literally have to rip myself from the screen to avoid envy sm.
