Spin Class|What they didn’t tell you!

Spin Class| What they didn’t tell you!

I went to my first spin class on a Sunday two months ago and I have not been back since. Okay, so I am one who likes to research things I’m interested in. Like many of us in this generation, especially with the Internet in our back pockets or purse. Well, I’ve always wanted to ride a bike as a form of exercise and mediation. However I cannot ride a bike…it is one of the things on my summer list that I didn’t get accomplished, I digress. So I did the next best thing which was cycling also known as spin. Ladies and Gentleman, did I say “next best thing” I will recount my statement. Don’t get me wrong I will go back …… I just haven’t yet, wink.

After work I went to the class early, which is recommended by this location and online reviews. This allows the instructor to be aware of a newbie in the class and gives you some great tips. I also received assistance in putting on my cycling shoes and getting properly fitted for my bike.  One thing I read online that was reiterated by the instructor was “listen to your body and go at your own pace”. The lights were turned down low ,music turned on and every single person there began to ride. It was GREAT! I was able to keep up and push myself more then I thought I could (since I promised myself to take it easy). It was going well… Until the pain started.

See, what I was feeling was not pain in my legs or thighs, nope. This pain was caused by the bike seat, at the upper inner thigh area. It was uncomfortable. For the last ten minutes of class I tried to avoid sitting as much as possible. At the end of class I had the opportunity to speak with John the instructor; he was great and I asked him if the seats were suppose to be that uncomfortable and he smiled then assured me that it is uncomfortable for most; however some get accustomed to it and others use padding, cushioned bike seats or even gel like underwear. Really?!

Yes …(let that settle)

I did enjoy the workout and I will be returning, until then #ZUMBA or #TurboFire ANYONE 🙂

If you have any suggestions on how to make this a bit more comfortable please share. I think I might try Soul Cycling.
Until my next post, see you on Instagram as I post about my journey.
I will be doing post on how to stay active on a budget so stay tune.

I did spinning in my undergrad and it was HELL. I loved and hated it. I felt good going in but felt like crap walking out. What I did was got a massage down there and a nice bubble bath. It will wear off if you keep going mines did. I have never tried Zumba? Do you like it? I say just find what works for you. Right now I am on Weight Watchers and it is working I am slimming down its just i have to find a exercise routine that works and I enjoy.

You are correct, the pain did indeed leave. I love dancing– So Zumba is something I enjoy doing. I’ve learn though with my body I need consistency and gradual intensity. #HIIT programs

Thank you for reading, and I hope you can share it as well. All I can say about that experience is give it a big laugh and say “give it another try”. It was good but painful. I heard exciting reviews about soul cycling, therefore I’m excited to try it out. Have you tried it yet? if not maybe we both should in March and share our experience! #teamFitness

I’m pretty sure I would hate spin class considering I avoid the bike at the gym lol.. I’m definitely partial to inclines on the treadmill and Zumba for cardio.

Kudos to you for at least trying a spining class which is better than me. I’m more of a Zumba girl myself. 😉

I think I would cry in a spin class. Then die on the floor afterwards.

Sounds like FUN! I’ve always wanted to do something like this, but don’t know if there are any classes in my area. I need to look into this. Thanks!

My butt area hurts from riding a regular bike too long. I know the bike seat in cycling would be killer. They have padded shorts and seats. I suggest you get both. hahahaha

    • Reply NaysVoice February 11, 2016 at 11:30 pm

lol thats a whole lot of cushion!!! but I think your suggestion hits it right on the nail. It really is needed. I believe if I keep doing it, it will get better. #positivethinking #livingactively while #activelyLiving

Lol! Spinning is rough! It burns a lot of calories, but I hate sitting on those hard bikes! Grrr

See…this is why I haven’t tried it out. LOL The videos I see going viral of diff spin classes look like so much fun, but I know that would not be what I look like (a hot mess). I do love me some Zumba though and can do that any time 🙂

  • Reply Keisha R February 12, 2016 at 11:45 am

Gotta get you a padded seat. It is the only way your buns will survive the class. TRUST ME!

  • Reply Deena February 12, 2016 at 3:50 pm

That seat DOES NOT get any more comfortable. I remember my first spinning class and the pain- oh the pain during that hour of torture. Not to mention the muscle stiffness after. The stiffness disappeared after a few classes but the saddle soreness stays FOREVER.

TRY IT! I say and if you don’t like it you can always return to ZUMBA!!!
Have you tried Shaun T’s CIZE?

  • Reply uniquelykai February 24, 2016 at 4:53 pm

Love this! My first try at spin was terrifying lol I literally sat on the bike and complaint every time the instructor would call my bike number, encouraging me to get back on track. I so did not want to spin again but at my second try I found how involving it was to all of the muscles in my body. But OMG YESSSS to the uncomfy seats, my first try was beyond uncomfy and the second try, the bike seats were comfortable and soft yessss lol. Great posting

  • Reply Kitty Wood April 22, 2016 at 3:52 pm

the seats should not be that uncomfortable! I’ve done the odd one and never had to worry about the seat, I suspect a cheap skate haha.
